This set of FUI screens was made mainly because I watch too many sci-fi films a I seem to be inexplicably drawn to the user interfaces I see so naturally want to have a go.
I wanted to make something that looked like it could live in the "Alien" (1979) franchise, or at least the earlier films. Having researched the Semiotic Standard, a visual language, created by Rob Cobb for the Alien films I was itching to make something that had a little more meaning than just meaningless screen greebles.
As a result I tried to attribute a function to all of the various bits and bobs you can see above. I wanted these to be clear and legible while still falling within the functional needs of the system as a whole.
The system I imagined controls the energy supply to large vessels or compounds requiring huge amounts of energy over long periods of time.
I animated all of the screen graphics inside of Cavalry. While the compositing was done inside of After Effects. I tried to keep it procedural where I could, only really hand animating with key frames to transition through the various screen states.
Thanks for checking it out.
