Mainframe were commissioned by Love to create a short film to launch Glenfiddich's new 22 year old whiskey. Gran Cortes XXll is part of Glenfiddich's Grand Series and we were tasked with bringing Love's visuals to life. This included the 'painted cross', a red flowing material reminiscent of flamenco dresses and of course, the bottle itself.

DEVELOPMENT - CLOTH
With the idea in mind that the cloth had to feel wispy and lightweight as well as luxurious to mimic flamenco styles we explored different thicknesses, cloth properties such as silk and velvet as well as a variation in transparency. Early tests played around with these different styles and materials eventually settling on a hybrid, moving like silk but with the richness of velvet. There was particular emphasis on the end frame where the fabric had to resolve into a cross shape behind the bottle whilst maintaining a rippled 3D shape. Harder than it may seem!
DEVELOPMENT - BOTTLE
The bottle presented a set of challenges with its unique triangular shape and the 'V' cut out in the front along with the various materials and textures that make up the labels. During the early modelling stages, care was taken to make sure that the model replicated the variation of glass thickness as well as the unique details to not only create an exact replica of the bottle but also to make sure that the glass and liquid rendered and looked physically correct in the later stages.
Yes, we did sample the product (as part of our research) and yes we do recommend it!
